Unconditional Family Love

This past weekend was a long one. Lots of yard work on Saturday and cleaning the inside on Sunday. This picture just about sums up how we all felt after. Exhausted! At the same time, doing these things together reminds me why we are a family. Cira is by our side for everything. Watching her sit as Gary put the lawn mower together. Listening to her cry when she couldn't be with us, and how she follows me around the house while I'm scrubbing. She really does show both of us unconditional love. And seeing Gary with her also makes me happy. Gary never had animals growing up. Not because he didn't want them. His parents always said no. Cira was already two when Gary came into my life. I wasn't sure how/if she would take to him. She's very clingly.

Fast forward four years and she adores him. She listens to him (in her terrier way). She loves him unconditionally the way I had always hoped. Seeing them together makes me happy. Knowing that he loves her too makes me even happier. He knew he couldn't have one without the other, but I couldn't be happier with the way things have worked out. And yes, my 50 pound dog thinks she weighs 10 pounds.

It was a fantastic weekend to be a family, it doesn't matter what the make up of it is. One of the best things about being married. We may not be what others preception is of a family. But to us, we have it all.
